Brig. Gen. Wayne Schatz recognizes Airman 1st Class Mathew Pierce, middle, pneudraulics apprentice, and Airman 1st Class Charles Futrell, right, electric environmental apprentice, as Combat Airlifter of the Week. Both are members of 314th Maintenance Group. Both Airmen exemplified true Wingman spirit on Oct. 27 when they rescued a fellow Airman from making a huge mistake. The Airman were eating a late night meal when Pierce and Futrell observed he was under the influence of alcohol and too intoxicated to drive. They made contact with the Airman and asked for his keys; the Airman initially didn’t want to give up his keys — they eventually convinced him. They gave the airman a ride back to base, ensured his roommate was aware of the situation and assured his safety. Airman 1st Class Futrell and Airman 1st Class Pierce not only prevented a fellow Airman from getting a DUI but more importantly also prevented possible loss of life as well.
