Lt. Col. Ken Walters, 348th Recruiting Squadron commander, locks the doors to the 348th RCS at Little Rock Air Force Base Wednesday. The 348 RCS, which ended its recruiting mission on Sept. 1, will officially close its doors Dec. 31.

Master Sgt. John W. “Red” Smith, a 314th Operations Group member, checks out the coin Brig. Gen. Rowayne Schatz, 314th Airlift Wing commander, presented to him Monday for being the Combat Airlifter of the Week. Since arriving at Little Rock Air Force Base in July 2006, Sergeant Smith has been instrumental in making sure members of his unit were prepared to deploy – achieving a 100-percent Air Expeditionary Force tasking fill rate. Sergeant Smith also stays involved in other areas by teaching six motorcycle safety courses to 72 riders from beginner to experienced, which increased riders’ safety and awareness.
