16-pound burden

Tech. Sgt. Jason Caswell, a 19th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, along with his wife, Tami, walk hand-in-hand to the preparation room for his operation Oct. 17 at Baptist Health Medical Center, Little Rock. After four years and eight surgeries, Caswell decided to get his leg amputated in his, hopefully, final attempt to improve his quality of life. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Scott Poe)

October 1983: At the end of October 1983, personnel from the 19th Air Refueling Wing, 41st Tactical Airlift Squadron and 53rd Military Airlift Squadron deployed in support of Operation Urgent Fury, a U.S.-led invasion of Grenada that was triggered by a bloody military coup and ousted a four-year revolutionary government. During the invasion, the 19th ARW aircrews provided aerial refueling support, while the 41st TAS and 53rd MAS provided airlift support.
