In 1991, he was on top of the world, in the prime of his life and the healthiest he’d ever been. Then 24-year-old “Buck” Sgt. Jimmy Ku, a crew chief stationed at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, was six years into his Air Force career as well as a year into his marriage and new role as stepfather to two daughters. He woke up one October morning with a severe pain on the right side of his groin that changed his life as he knew it.


Visiting a foreign country can be an exciting yet an intimidating experience. Imagine traveling to an unfamiliar country to learn to fly or maintain an aircraft in a second or third language.

On Jan. 20, 1941, the 19th Bombardment Group performed an overflight at the third inauguration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The group’s B-17s were among 278 Army and Navy aircraft that crisscrossed the parade route for 45 minutes before the start of the inaugural parade. (Courtesy photo)
