Personnel assigned to the 308th Missile Maintenance Squadron removed the last Titan II missile Feb. 23, 1987, from the site located one mile northwest of Judsonia (White County). The deactivation of this intercontinental ballistic missile was the end of the Titan II era for Strategic Air Command. The 17 ICBMs removed from sites around Arkansas were shipped to Norton Air Force Base, California, for storage before moving to Vandenberg AFB to launch satellites into orbit. In the months after removal the ICBM sites were deactivated by purging the underground plumbing, shutting down environmental systems and dismantling the site. The nosecone from the Judsonia Titan II now resides in Heritage Park.
