SPORTS>>Falcons downed 4-2 at northern Colorado

GREELEY, Colo. (AFNEWS) — Despite racking up 15 hits, Air Force struggled to get runs up on the scoreboard, falling 4-2 to Northern Colorado May 5 at Jackson Field. The Falcons fall to 8-38 while the Bears improved to 12-28 prior their game with Utah Valley State.

Five Falcons had two-or-more hits in the game. Karl Bolt and Shea Hall led the way, both going 3-for-4. Chay Derbigny, Josh Meents and Jason Griggs had two hits apiece.

Air Force starter Jake Petro (3-9) kept the game close, allowing three runs off eight hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Mitch Brown and Michael Ruvolo pitched in relief for the Falcons.

UNC reliever Matt Collins (2-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Tyler Pearson threw a scoreless eighth and ninth innings for the save.

Bear starter Chris Reap allowed the two runs off 12 hits in five innings pitched. Air Force struck first with a run in the fourth inning to take an early 1-0 lead. UNC came right back with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the ball game at 1-1.

The Falcons immediately re-took the lead with a run in the fifth to go back up 2-1. Northern Colorado tied the game up with John Ray’s homer and went ahead with another run in the sixth to make it a 3-2 game.

UNC tacked on an insurance run in the eighth. The Bears had 10 hits in the game with four players collecting two hits each.
Air Force returns to action May 11, hosting Utah.
